Physician Wealth Meds: The Healthcare Heist - The Hidden Forces Changing Medicine

August 25, 2026

Case Study: Physician Burnout

Physicians enter medicine to care for patients, but many are now spending increasing amounts of time managing documentation, insurance requirements, and administrative demands. The result is growing frustration, burnout, and a sense of disconnection from the work that brought them to medicine in the first place.

Consulting Physician: Jordan Grumet, MD.

Jordan Grumet, MD, brings both professional and personal experience to this conversation. After spending six years defending a medical malpractice lawsuit before ultimately being dropped from the case, he began looking more closely at the forces shaping modern healthcare and the impact they have on both physicians and patients.

Diagnosis:

Systemic Disconnection. Grumet argues that physicians are increasingly caught between patients and a complex system of insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, regulations, technology, and other third-party interests. Administrative requirements, electronic medical records, prior authorizations, and increasing workloads can leave physicians with less time and energy for their patients.

He describes the result as more than burnout. For many physicians, it can feel like moral injury—knowing what is best for a patient but feeling unable to provide it because of the constraints of the system.

Treatment Plan: Rebuild the Physician-Patient Relationship

The treatment plan includes:

  • Tell the story. Encourage physicians to share their experiences and the realities of practicing medicine.
  • Build connection. Use writing, podcasts, social media, and other platforms to create greater understanding between physicians and patients.
  • Restore trust. Help patients see the person behind the profession and better understand the pressures physicians face.
  • Create partnership. Shift the relationship from physician vs. patient to physician + patient vs. the problem.

Prognosis:

Meaningful change is possible when physicians and patients recognize that they are allies rather than adversaries.

His message to physicians experiencing burnout is simple: they are seen, valued, and their work matters. Reconnecting physicians and patients may be an important first step toward restoring the purpose and humanity at the heart of medicine.
